If you ask me, Rhode Island has Massachusetts beat for bike path superiority. After riding the Blackstone River Bikeway this past weekend, I'm convinced that the Ocean State has the most progressive cycling infrastructure in all of New England.
Everything about the path is awesome. From cleanliness to scenery, this path should be an example to all other bike paths. For years, I thought the Cape Cod Canal was as good as it gets. Even though I still love the smell of the ocean as I ride, this bike path surpasses my expectations and is now ranked as my favorite in the region. Every turn and every bend reveal a new piece of scenery. There are massive bridges and old factories that make the path enjoyable and interesting. Of course, the Blackstone river runs parallel to it and provides its namesake.
At roughly ten miles, the path stretches from Woonsocket to Cumberland. There are a minimal number of road crossings which make it more user friendly than the East Bay Bike Path. There are also additional miles on-road that supposedly link it to East Bay. The roads seemed busy and I was getting tired, so I turned around at the ten mile mark. A must ride path if you're in the area.
