This past fall, I focused my mid-week night rides on gravel. As such, there are a limited number of routes in southeastern Massachusetts to ride gravel at night without running the risk of getting mauled by a Tesla. However, I struck gold when I found this "gravel" route within Wompatuck State Park on Ride With GPS, courtesy of Brian Carlson. It is essentially 20 miles of car free gravel, trail, pave, and singletrack. While some sections are a little technical for a gravel bike, they are nevertheless outstanding, and completely rideable with some intermediate bike handling skills. This route explores some of the best areas within Wompatuck State Park, as well as some of the great conservation areas abutting it, such as Whitney-Thayer Woods and Turkey Hill. I highly recommend riding this route on a gravel bike with at least 35c tires, or even a hardtail mountain bike (perfect for the a-gravel-bike-is-a-'90s-mountain-bike-crowd). I've included a few picture from this past fall to inspire your next mixed terrain adventure.
