Pratt Farm (Middleboro, MA)

Pratt Farm
110 East Main Street
Middleboro MA, 02346

It's not very often that you find a beautifully maintained forest park close to a thriving downtown. Such is the case with Pratt Farm. This trail is a great place to take a hike as well as a good local spot for mountain biking. If you leave the back side of the park, you can even extend your ride to other trail networks in Middleboro.

From the main parking lot, you can either go left or right to enter the trails. Left will take you to the main loop which is clearly labeled along the trail. Maps and information stands dot the path throughout the farm, pointing out historical and geological points of interest. Much of the farm is overgrown since it stopped functioning in 1960. However, the recreational aspect of the park has been well maintained. New benches and trail signs abound. Following this trail will also take you around the pond. Also, smaller capillary trails lead out to a peninsula in the pond. If you follow this trail to its extremity, you will enter the other half of the farm that leads back to the parking lot. There's really no way to describe how secluded this park is considering it's only two miles from Route 495.

I also came across another blog when researching Pratt Farm. It includes some great pictures and history: Recollecting Nemasket. Great trails and truly a hidden gem.
