D2R2 Training: Hurrican Irene
So it figures that on the one day I need to be sunny, a hurricane is predicted to break shore. What I'm hearing, however, is that the rain coming tomorrow night will pack down the dirt roads. This will keep the dust down throughout the ride. Hopefully this will also make the ride cooler. Since the summer of '08, I've actually grown fond of riding in overcast weather. I could do without the wetness, but it's not like I have a choice. The green mountains get green somehow.
Today I did a fully equipped shakedown ride for the D2R2. This includes my homemade cue sheet holder and dual water bottles. The two bottle holders were tight on the Raleigh, but with a little wrestling I got them in. I also packed an inflator, three CO2 cartridges, tube, lever, patch kit, and a multi-tool hex set. If I were a betting man, I'd say the rig weighs about 30 pounds total. My primary concern is my tire selection. I'm hoping the Michelin Country Rocks prove to be an appropriate selection. We shall see!
