Ellisville Harbor State Park (Plymouth, MA)

Ellisville Harbor State Park
State Road 3A
Plymouth, MA 02360

While I've never biked here, and I'm not sure it's allowed, Ellisville Harbor offers a great opportunity to peruse the scenic coast of America's Hometown. Located directly off of Route 3A in South Plymouth, Ellisville Harbor contains roughly 3 miles of nicely groomed walking trails that traverse a high cliff near a marshy beach. At the end of the trail, there's a wooden staircase leading down to the beach. Like many beaches in Cape Cod Bay, the water is cold and rocky. At low tide you can walk over the rocks a good amount towards the water. You can even spot an oil tanker making its way out of the Cape Cod Canal. Unfortunately for me, last time I went here I saw a dead seal on the beach. Hopefully you can find a live one!

Seriously though, this park is a great place for a Sunday afternoon stroll. Or, if you're a runner, the trails provide hassle free traction and are expertly maintained. Maps are available in the parking area and at the ranger station. Do not rely on Google for directions! For some reason they pinned the location to the wrong part of Plymouth. The correct entrance lies directly across from Old Sandwich Road. Be sure to wave to the goats on your way out!
